new XC/AM cranks, $300-400 to spend?

    hi all,

i've been looking at new cranksets for around $300, max. $400

the 2006 XTR, 2007 XT, and raceface Deus / Atlas are all within my range and interest.

any comments, other suggestions? i would've already ordered the 2006 XTR, but i'm scared of the proprietary BCD. i've searched the forums plenty, it appears the raceface deus are compared to XT level.

    what would rainbow unicorn do?

I have RF Deus and Shimano Saint. I have had no problems with either but much prefer the easy Shimano installation and removal. If I was in your situation I would get XT.
I got some bad ideas in my head.

2007 xtr aka M970 looks nice, except that the middle and big rings are >$100 for replacement. They use 104mm bcd, but a lot of the initial cost is that carbon/Ti middle ring. 970 also uses a new tool that no other crank uses.

M960 has proprietary chainrings, but they are available (and at least one aftermarket brand is out there too).

    I'd get XT before Raceface.
