    new shifters and rear derailleur

I realised whilst i was riding the other day that my entire rd was twisted from when it mounts on the hanger, im not sure how this happened i just noticed because it was skipping gears. Anyway im gonna buy a replacement x9 and was wondering if its worth upgrading my x7 shifters to x9's at the same time? as i want to spend some of my tax return.

I just want to know if the shifting really is much better on the x9's?

How old are the X.7 shifters?

If it's been a while since the cable and housing has been replaced, my guess is that you're likely to notice improved shifting performance by just installing new housing (and a new cable if the old one is showing wear).

You should also try to figure out what's wrong with your current derailleur. If the derailleur is truly broken, then replacing it is a good idea, but if the problem is elsewhere (e.g. in the hanger), replacing the derailleur won't fix the problem at all.
