New Cassette and Chain on Old Chainrings

Does anyone know if old/worn chainrings will ruin new chain and cassette? I have heard that it is recommended to have new chains when you get a new cassette, but nothing mentioned about old chainrings. Why?

    Thanks!

Rings last a bit longer because there is less torque on them ( in my unscientific observation) - I'd say replace the ring/s only if they are giving you problems - I cannot see how a 'bad' ring would wear a chain or cassette.
    Honestly... ahh I give up

If the chain slips or suffers chainsuck, replace the rings...otherwise I've seen some very worn front chainrings do just fine.
