    New to 2x10: wear questions

I just checked my chain wear and it's borderline, according to the gauge. I have zero problems with slippage right now. I also was just getting the bike checked out at the shop for other things and they guy said my cassette was a bit worn. Again, I have had zero slippage problems. I have probably just under 1000 miles on them. I am new to 2x10 and have been climbing in harder gears than I used to, so no doubt this is contributing some to the wear. If I switch out the chain now, do I absolutely need to switch the cassette? Should I just switch the chain and wait until I have slippage issues to switch the cassette? I know some people say you absolutely have to switch both at the same time. There are currently no "shark teeth" on the cassette. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many chain guage wear tools are not so accurate. Use a ruler. Try giving this a read:

Also it's perfectly fine to replace a chain but not the cassette. Usually not the other way around though.

If you do have slippage it's time to replace the chain, cassette, and chainrings. Big bucks!!
If you replace your chain (well) before it is so worn that you have 'slippage' and shark teeth than all you have to replace is the chain for just the cost of the chain.

You can drastically increase the life of your cassette an chainrings by replacing your chain before it is totally worn out.

I've learned the hard way. Twice.
