Yes, they are out there. Just make sure that the ones you are interested in don't replace the big ring (this is a more common desire, so many of the options available are designed to do that). Off the top of my head, I think Blackspire makes such an animal ("Big Ring Protector" or something like that). There are others.

    Cheers, Chris

    www.blackspire.com

You are looking for the, "Big Ring Protector" for the full on bash lovin, or the "C4 Big Ring Protector" for a lighter, medium duty bash attack.

    Blackspire @ Universal Cycles

    Salsa @ Speedgoat

Just the first two I tried, I'm sure there are others.

Are you sure you really want to do this? I would imagine this would lead to a far-less-than-ideal setup for the front end drivetrain. I've heard these setups can make front derailleur tuning pretty ugly. Why not just ditch the big ring and consider getting a taller middle ring if you think you'll miss those higher gears (and then be able to use a big-ring-replaceable bash)?

    Cheers, Chris
