multi, instant and 2 way release?

i noticed that XT shifters has these 2 other releases (got the info from their site) compared to a Deore shifter. i'm just wondering whats the difference between these releases? i understand the 2 way release, but i can't understand these others (multi and instant release).

Instant release: With Deores, when you hit the shifter to move to higher gear (smaller cog) it shifts AFTER you release the trigger. With instant release, it shifts the moment you hit the trigger, just like the lever to move to a lower gear.

Multi release: The trigger to move to a higher gear can be pushed a small amount to upshift 1 gear, or pushed farther to upshift 2 gears. Sorta like the lever to move to a lower gear, except only 2 as opposed to 3 gear changes. Better than the 1 for most shifters.
