Mounting a chainguide, which bottom bracket?

I am putting together a bike and have a question for you. What kind of Shimano octalink bottom bracket will fit my bike? I will keep on using octalink because I allready have XT crankarms and I'm on a budget. The crankhouse measure is 73mm. I will mount a chainguide from Blackspire it has to be installed toghether with the bb. I thought i could use my old bb, but the axle is to short. My old bb was 73mm/113mm.

Will a 73/118mm solve the problem, or do I have to buy a "e-type" bb?

    Thank you

yes, you need an E-type bb

"e-type" bb's leave room for chainguide plates between the frame and drive-side bb cup. you need the last one here (E 73 x 118mm):

definitely go for the xt version. as far as i know, 113mm e-type bb's don't really exist. you'll hardly notice the extra width of the 118 - there will just be an extra 2.5mm between your cranks and chainstays on each side - likely not a bad thing.
