I'm looking for a front shifter that's fine-tuneable. I've seen some sram models called "micro" shifters. Is this the same as friction? Thanks.

Not exactly...

Micro-Indexed like SRAM Twist Shifters or Campy Ergo Shifter on the road have multiple clicks to give you some fine tuning of your front derailleur trim...but they are still set clicks.

Friction has infinite adjustability between the High and Low stops, using only friction (hence the name) in the shifter to hold the derailleur in place.
