For the most part your right, it's just a bunch of small clicks that will let you trim out the front derailleur. Not available for the rear shifters though.
Micro-Indexed like SRAM Twist Shifters or Campy Ergo Shifter on the road have multiple clicks to give you some fine tuning of your front derailleur trim...but they are still set clicks.
Friction has infinite adjustability between the High and Low stops, using only friction (hence the name) in the shifter to hold the derailleur in place.
Not at all. No amount of vibration will cause a micro indexed shifter to move. There are numbers you can look at and remember.
