ok i need a new bottom bracket but i dont know what size my bike takes (its a 2001 norco vps by the way if anyone knows) i want to measure the bottom bracket without going through the trouble of going to the shop and paying 15 bucks to get it uninstalled, 60 for a new one and 15 more to get it installed. I was thinking of wrapping a piece of string around the exposed part of the bb (the threaded drive side) and measuring that. Another problem, i measured it the best i could and so far i cant see it being any where near 68 or 73 mm in width, so is the shell width the actual width of the bb, or is it something else? Thanx!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! i thought the width was how wide the side was i was getting like 43 mm so i thought i was screwed. Its 68 mm in case anyone needs to know.
there is no harm in getting a 118 even if you need a 113 right? im pretty dure its a 118 any ways but just in case
Take the distance between the seat tube and the center of the middle chainring, then take the diameter of the seat tube divided by 2, add those two numbers together and it should be either 47.5mm or 50mm.
its truvativ so its either 53 or 56 (dont ask) so i measured from center of bottom bracket to the third chainring on my current crank, it was pretty close to 56-if not spot on, so im going with a 68x118 which is equivalent to a 68x56 howitzer correct?
i just measured from center of bb ro third chainring. The howitzer only comes in 51, or 56 and im guessing it would be safe to go with 56
