I use Dumonde Tech freehub oil. Last time I checked, it was one of the few aftermarket lubes approved by Mavic and is much easier (and cheaper) to get than the "official" Mavic mineral oil.

    $10.00 or so at Nashbar.

Walmart Mineral Oil works fine. Be sure to get between those spoke crossings too - because they will creak like crickets. It drove me so mad.....I had to sell my Mavic Crossmax SLR. Buh-bye, Mavic!

Ditch the mineral oil altogether. I use a light sythetic oil made by Penn for fishing reels. It took me way too long to make the switch because I wanted to use what Mavic recommends. The mineral oil doesn't last and it attracts dirt as much as anything else. Don't go too thick (Paul's Tenacious) because the pawls don't want to return as quick and the factory seal lets in way too much dirt. You will wear out your hub in a hurry with the mess that builds up if you use too heavy of a lube.

The HubDoctor kit really helps with keeping the dirt out if you have an older model. The outer seal is much better than stock.

2nd on the Dumonde lube. Although it is not officially endorsed by Mavic.
