Idea! Matchmaker for Avid Elixir/Juicy & Shimano shifters w/pic

    Hi guys,

I've received my Hope matchmakers today ...

    Results : It works

    The Set up

    Brakes : Avid Elixir CR
    Shifters : Shimano XT 2011 (10sp 770 10sp)
Matchmaker : Hope Tech Shimano XT (also works for XT 08-10, SLX 09-11, Saint 09-11)

    Cons :
    • The raw finish is not that great when everything else's black on the handlebar
    • The shifter indicator should be removed due to the lack of space between the brake lever and the shifter. It's not that bad, it save some weight and you just have to place a cover instead of the indicator, wich is just behind the indicator.

Here are some pictures (click on the pictures for higher resolution) :

$38 shipping included with CRC. I lived in Europe that's why the shipping is free but it's around 8 or 9 bucks of shipping from America . I know it's not cheap but it works and I was looking for such a thing for months .

I forgot to do the weight (of the Hope Tech Matchmaker) when I open the box but in my hand it was lighter than the shimano clamp.

    It save 79 grammes :

    By removing :
    • XT Indicators (around 23 grammes)
    • Avid Elixir clamp (9 grammes)
    • Shimano XT clamp (around 47 grammes)

I just ordered a set for SRAM XO shifters and Hope Tech brakes from AE Bike. I think they were $35 with free shipping (orders over $75). Will post pictures when they arrive next week.

If you have a pair of Elixir or Juicy you don't need to buy Hope Matchmaker clamp. You already have this avid matchmaker. But if you got a pair of Hope Tech brakes you did the right thing .

The main idea with this topic was about mixing avid brakes and shimano shifters with an "officially not compatible" matchmaker, the Hope "tech" matchmaker in our case.

You need a different clamp, not the hope....you can match Avid brakes and Sram shifters np. This is what you need.

Since the OP is using Shimano shifters, he used the Hope clamp since they dont make one for shimano.

This is something I was thinking about, glad there is a product for it.

Does anyone know if there is a similar combined mounting for matching the 2012 XT shifter (SL-M780) and new 2012 Avid Elixir 9 brakes?

    Thanks for any helpful info.

BTW I found this clamp/adapter, might be of interest to some:

Not really sure if there is a product to go with if you want to solve the problem of XT 2012 shifters and 2011 and 2012 Elixir.

Sadly the Hope matchmaker cannot fit the Elixir's since 2011, but thanks to you purdyboy, I'll send an email to Trickstuff.

Those are pretty slick. Now if only Avid would make a decent brake...

Not necessarily, for some the shifter ergonomics is better, for some it's worst. I belong to the first category, both shifters and brake levers handling have improved, it looks cleaner and it saves some weight.

But you can't mix that easily shimano shifters with avid brakes anymore, if you have 2010 or older avid brakes then it's ok, otherwise :mad.
