Loud Santa Cruz Superlight when coasting

My bike appears to be loud when I'm costing. My bike seems to always be the loudest one in the group. Is this a sign of an imminent issue or am I ok?

Loud Santa Cruz Superlight w/Shimano XT-R - Help diagnoise - YouTube

I have XTR components and rolf hubs.

Could my bearings be going out on my Rolf?

It's not a new noise, it's just always been loud since I've owned the bike (10 years or so).

    Thanks,
    Gary

A lot of people pay top dollar just to get a hub that loud, personally it would encourage me to never coast, or get a different hub.

I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with the hub mechanically but some fresh/different grease would probably quiet it down some.

That definitely sounds weird. It shouldn't be making any noise when you're pedaling. I suspect your freehub body is cracked. It happened to me on a ride last summer, and I heard a similar kind of low knocking noise whenever I coasted. Have you removed the cassette? Any bike shop should be able to remove the cogs and see if the freehub body is broken.

Are you sure nothing is hitting your spokes?

If not i would pull the hub apart and see if anything looks broken thats a weird noise to hear when you are pedalling.

It's sounded like that for more or less 13 years? I think I'd just say that's the sound that bike makes.

Yeah, if that's while peddling then you have problems. I was under the impression the noise was only while coasting.

I need to post a video where it is coasting. It's loud.

When I pedal it sounds similar but it's more of a creaking noise.

The noise has been with the bike for over 10+ years. I want to spend money on
the bike rather than get a new one.

I read some posting about Rolf hubs being loud so when I read the post that said people will pay top dollars for that racket (by JB Weld), I couldn't help but laugh.

I'm starting to think (after reading some posting about Rolf hubs), that it may be in fact normal and perhaps i just need to put in new grease. I'll probably take it apart.
