New question here. Loud Cassette...Please Advise!

I have a Klein Adept Pro with an XTR cassette on Bontrager rims/hubs. The cassette is quite noisy when freespinning in reverse or when coasting. It sounds as if it needs oil. This noise started a few months ago when I got my bike muddy and washed the lower part with a hose. Could water have gotten inside of there? Is it possible? If I go about 30-40 mph down a hill and stop peddling, it is if the ballbarings are clicking (think about one of those annoying noise makers that you spin).

Any suggestions? How would water have gotten in there and how do i now get oil in there?

Cassettes don't have bearings, but your freehub body does. You might need to lube your freehub, but it's not particularly easy (you can buy a new one too, but if you want XTR it won't be cheap), assuming you've got an XTR hub. Water can get everywhere if you give it a chance. Morningstar makes a tool called the freehub buddy that will inject lube into the freehub body ( but dust covers Shimano uses can make this hard, too. Taking apart a freehub body is not so easy, let alone putting it back together; the tool isn't available from Shimano any more either.
