    We don't know

Only you know what makes you happy. Perhaps if you gave us some insight as to why you want to run one chainring up front as opposed to two or three, we might be able to help with a recommendation.

sorry for the vagueness, i want to run single ring up front because its not too often i use either of my other rings and swapping to single ring would be so much more simple. i dont have to worry about one set of cable shifter or derailer. ill only have to worry about the rear. nice and simple and less expensive when it comes time to replace the drive train. i ride single track, free ride, stairs, gaps to embankments, wheelies lots of wheelies, endos, average street riding for a old school 20 inch guy. no dirt trails with ramps and six and eight packs, i also commute on this bike aswell.

Then you'd likely be happy with a 1x9.
