    Knocking noise

    Hi there,

I have a new XC hardtail bike with full XT drivetrain. It's been riding great for a few months now, however it has developed a "knock" while pedalling, which I initially assumed was a loose or worn bottom bracket.

Then I started paying more attention, and it sounds as though it is only coming from the middle chainring - when I ride in granny or my big ring it goes away.

How would a bike store troubleshoot this sort of issue? Is it still worth pulling my cranks off and checking my bottom bracket?

    Any help would be great.

Maybe you've got a bent tooth on the middle ring.
