I would like to convert the 3x9 drivetrain on my TREK 4300 to a 1x9. I've seen many threads that have many of the questions answered. However, I still have a few questions. I'm looking into the bashguards from BBG, and believe I'd like to make a "Bashwich". If I go this route will that eliminate the need for a separate chainguide (i.e. MPR), as I'd like to keep things a simple as possible. Also, I'm looking to go with a 34t chainring and would be curious to know if I should go with a med cage derailleur? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
