New question here. ISIS to Ext Bearing BB ?

I bought a 2008 GF HiFi that has a ISIS BB and read that those barings don't last very long. I want to know if it's better to start looking for a replacement and possibly upgraded ISIS BB or can I get an external bearing BB and associated crankset to fit the BB shell?
    No, I don't wanna race.

Yes, you can install an external bearing crankset.

But do not even worry about until the BB/crankset you have now has issues. It may (and probably will) work just fine for you.

    Good job!

    Thanks Mr Shiggy.
But it looks like I have an Octalink after all.

I'll run it until it starts acting up.

I go through outboard bearing bottom brackets much fast than than I ever did shimano octalink, or square taper. I never have run a Isis, but they do see to wear fast.
    Whats this line for?

The Crank Brothers ISIS BBs are made by SKF. They are OK.

    Enough acronyms?

Seriously, I've had good service life out of the SKF/Crank Bros ones. But now that I read above I realise that's academic because you have Octalink. Oh well, it might help someone else!

I never had issues with Octalink either...since Shimano had brains enough to use roller bearings in them. They always lasted just as long as square taper (in fact I have a nearly 10 year old Ultegra model on my road bike that is still rolling smooth).
