or any other suggestions? how's the 08 RF evolve xc or FSA v-drive?
    concerned about long term durability.
OR do i have to go to 08 XT?

i use the 2007 stylo team 3.3 their not too heavy i the chain rings are a little soft and i have changed them to the KCNC chainrings.
over all very happy for the price

You can get the Shimano LX external bb crank for pretty reasonable cost, and the XT's are nice too and some very good pricing if you look around. Shimano's design for ease of installing/removal is the best IMO.

    I like 'em

I'm running the ''08 stylo 3.3....Three months with no problems so far. The small ring did loosen up once, but that's my fault for not checking the bolts after the first couple rides). Bearings still running smooth. Seems like a good crankset for a good price...I paid $120 on eBay, from Adventure Sports Unlimited.

I put those clear self-adhesive protector things on the arms (can't remember what they're called....bought them on-line for about $8) and they still look like new...no shoe rub or scratched paint at all.
