How tight is 4 - 6 in. lbs (Shimano XT/XTR Hollowtech bearing preload)

I own a torque wrench, but exactly how tight is the appropriate pressure
on a Hollowtech cap? Docs say 0.4-0.7 Nm (4-6 in lbs).

I assume this means just enough preload until the end play is gone and
the o-ring seals against the bearing plates? Kinda like old unsealed bearings
of old? Should one, tighten, spin, and tighten again?

My torque wrench has sort of a low end of 10 Nm. Need to find torque scredriver.

It's pretty much finger tight, I don't use a tool at all.

I dont think your torque wrench will fit the plastic nut, Park tools has a external BB wrench that has a thumbwheel nut tightener on one end. I tap the other side of the crank with a rubber mallet first, then tighten the nut .

Very low, its barely finger tight. Use the plastic knob and hand tighten them until they are firm and snug. Its pretty difficult to overtighten them by hand.

It's one pound of pressure on the end of a 4-6" wrench. In other words - not much.

Now that is something I can do! I had been try to sort of a click (it was the pedals
being loose ), so I have been playing with the BB and have no sense
of how tight this should be except that it is bearings. Now where is my spring scale ...
    Thnx all.
