last week i broke my rear derailluer hanger but it seems i tweaked the derailleur too as it wont shift smooth anymore even after adjusting it.

i want to get a new one but i do not know what will fit or work with what i have.

i have a 2011 specialized hardrock. for drivetrain it has:
a KMC Z7 w/ reuseable Missing Link chain
a SR SunTour, square taper spline crank set
a SRAM PG-730, 7-speed, 12-32t cassette
and the rear derailleur is a SRAM X.4 8sp Midcage

i just need a derailleur that works and is on the cheaper side..

thanks , George

Did you get the alignment of the new derailleur hanger checked?

I've always had good luck with mine, but there are tons of reports of new ones coming out of the box a little crooked. I'd get that checked before replacing the derailleur itself.

this is my 1st year back into mtb after 2011. i dont remember this stuff being so temperamental.

i have another question.. when you put the rear tire back on and tighten the skewer down and it pulls the two sides of the frame closer (small amount) could that cause a problem ? technically its moving the derailleur.

and one more and ill stop.. if you were to restart from scratch on re setting the derailleur what are the default settings so to speak for the screws ?

thanks again for the help. will post updates.
