    Hollowtech 2 trickledown- 2005 LX?

Does anyone know if next year's LX cranks will be of the two-piece, XTR-esque variety, or whether they will stay with the Octalink design?
    Any ideas on cost?
    Thanks.

Trickle down? YES. A little on the ugly side? YES.

You can see a preview here: http://www.bikemagic.com/news/articl...N/3843/v/1/sp/

    Haven't seen prices yet.

Will it suck regardless because it's LX? Most likely.

Naw, LX rocks. Yeah, Shimano boffed it with the slightly heavier, longer ES51 bottom bracket required for the current 572 LX cranks, but only to make up for the fact that the previous 571 LX cranks were better in some respects than XT: As light, as stiff, durable steel granny, and less than 1/2 the cost.

The current LX install is 50g-60g heavier than XT (due to the bottom bracket) but has tested stiffer by a percent or two, and still has the cost advantage. LX cranks continue to be the best deal out there.

We'll just have to see how the new design measures up. I'm not pleased with the chainline issue the new batch of cranks present.
