help w bullhorn barend shifter setup

I would like to take an old hardtail frame i have and make a touring type bike of it. Rigid fork, 26" wheels with slicks on it, bullhorn bars with barend shifters and aero bars. I having trouble figuring out the drivetrain. I would like to keep it a single speed up front and maybey a 9 speed rear. I need to know if road style bar end shifters will work with a 9 speed mountain rear derailer. Or what would be the best way to accomplish all this. Here is a link to the shifters im looking at.

And a pic of what im thinking of doing on the bullhorn bars.

If anyone has built a ride like this i would love to hear ideas.

    Thanks
    Jim

As long as you use 9 speed shifters and match Shimano to Shimano it will work . Your pic shows a Pauls Components Thumbies to make it work .

9 speed thumbie will work with 9 speed mtb derailleur.

But, I would check e-bay for a used set since you only need the right one.

Old enough to know better. And old enough not to care. Best age to be.
