    Help with Shimano XT 770

    Alright fellas im trying to figure out, im planing on getting this crank, http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=20679 XT 770 but i only want to run the 32 ring, would i be able to take the other 2 out and run just the 32? or would i have to buy a whole new ring and bolts etc...

    you can run a single ring, you need shorter bolts, or a bashguard. i have the same cranks - they're pretty nice.

    You could but it would look a little odd unless you run something like a bash ring on the outside. You will also probably have to change the bolts since they are designed to connect the middle ring, large ring, and crank arms all at once.

    If you only want to run one ring, remove all of them and replace with a singlespeed 32t ring for 104BCD 4-bolt and a set of single-ring bolts or a bashring. SS rings have taller teeth which improves chain retention compared to a single ring.

    XT-level replacement chainrings are pricey so you should be able to sell the new set on craigslist or eBay and make a profit after buying the SS rings
