    Help, Please

my cassette is due to be replaced / upgraded. i currently have a 9speed road mech i.e. close and low ratios. 'tis the season to xc though! does anyone use a 'road' mech for xc? opinions? since last using an xc cassette i have upgraded my entire drive train to xt/xtr from abused LX so any old problems with slower shifting from before should be solved. i'm after a v. light 9 speed. xc / singletrack / commuting. any weight saving by not having the larger rings. would i really miss them on a 27 speed? any suggestions? i saw a SRAM (i think) cassette the other day with a vey sexy annodised inner spider holding the rings. i like shiny! not really on a budget.

What the heck are you asking?

Try asking one question at a time.
"It's only when you stand over it, you know, when you physically stand over the bike, that then you say 'hey, I don't have much stand over height', you know"-T. Ellsworth
