    help with front derailleur

got my wife an x9 shifter set.

her bike has a shimano deore front derailleur.

bike will shift from 1 to 2 but will not shift into 3 (big ring).

the shifter clicks through and the derailleur moves but does not stay on the big ring...goes back to middle ring.

    any takers?

tried it a few times...but will revisit.

if i screw it down it does not let me shift up.

when i screw it out i will go to middle ring...i will screw it out some more and see what it does.

Park Tool has a great maintenance section. Follow all of the diretions and take your time. It will come together for you.

it will shift to the big ring but you have to push waaaayyyyyy down past a second "click".

would an xt 771 derailleur fix this?

I doubt if you can't adjust the current derailleur that a new one will change that. If the derailleur was properly setup previously and all you did was change shifter I'd suspect cable tension more than the limit screws, but it wouldn't hurt to verify all aspects of the front derailleur setup (that Park Tool tutorial is a good one).
