I'm new here, so first off, great site! I've been off the bike a few years, but now I am back with a vengeance! Been doing 27 - 60 mile trips these last few months to stave off my fibromyalgia symptoms. Enough about me, here's the deal with the bike!
Ok, I have a strange 2-piece crank on an older (late 90's Nishiki) MTB that I bought at a pawn shop, and I just replaced the bottom bracket bearings, and I'm happy with the design, just can't seem to find a replacement spider. This 5 arm aluminum spider isn't fixed, it slides freely on the 17mm spindle/axle, not fixed as normal to the right crank arm. I would much prefer a steel version that won't wear out so quickly.
I have spent the better part of the day trying to scour the net for ANY info on this Tioga 2-piece crank. My local bike shop owner says that it's very much like a BMX style crank, with the exception being the removable spider that accepts 3 chain rings.
Here are some pics of the crank, I would have taken it apart again, but I just shimmed up the worn spider last night, I want to test it out before I take it off again and see if the shimming helped.
Thanks in advance!
