Has anyone tried running XX1 crankset with non-clutch type derailleur WITHOUT GUIDE

Has anyone tried running the XX1 crank on a non-clutch type rear derailleur? I'm kind of smitten with my x0 derailleur and would like to know if anyone has managed to get away with using a "normal" derailleur with the XX1 without a chain guide. If so, are you using a 9/10/11 speed chain?

    Thanks!

I tried it on a 5spot with a 9sp cassette, 9sp X9 long cage, and a 10sp chain. Chain stayed on, but it was a tame xc trail with no big drops or hard hits.

Thanks Jaks. I'm going to give it a shot on some rougher terrain

No prob. It did seem to be pretty secure. I tried bouncing around as much as I could and hit every little obstacle to try to dislodge the chain from the front xx1 chainring, but it stayed on. However, the chain would still hit my chainstays so there was still some noise from that.

After that, I did go to an Type 2 X9 mid cage with a 10sp rear cassette. I wanted it to be uber quiet with no chainguide or front derailleur to make noise.
