    granny ring/mid ring size difference

What is the max difference you can run between your granny and the mid ring on a 2-ring setup? I currently have a 22/32 setup with a Shimano M760 Derailleur. I want to look into getting a larger mid-ring. I thought a 38 would be perfect, but someone at the good ol' LBS said you shouldn't/can't run larger than a 15T difference between rings, hence a 38 would be too big. Just wondering if this is true. The specs on the M760 give a "Front Chainwheel tooth difference" (22T) and a "minimum difference between the top and intermediate" (12T), but no info about the granny and mid ring difference capabilities/restrictions...

would you believe a 24/42/52 crankset?

Go to and take a look at this Ritchey road/touring crankset. I couldn't believe the jump between the granny and middle ring that it has.

Otherwise, the most teeth difference I have seen is 12T.
