New question here. Gap between chain and chainring

Straight forward question... I think. What the heck could be causing this gap between the chain and the chain-ring? This is on a hybrid I built. I made it from a mid 80's Schwinn World Sport. Drivetrain is 6x2 with a compact up front. It sees mostly rail trail stuff and some light duty logging trails now and then. It started skipping teeth when I put a lot of power to the cranks. Not happy about that. Almost caused a painful incident a few days ago.

    Anyone?

Chainrings are extremely worn, and I'm guessing the chain is too. You'll have to replace everything including rear cassette.

    ^^^ +1.

How much maintenance do you do on that bike? You may want to look over the whole bike and go through your bottom bracket, headset, and hubs to name a few. That drivetrain looks neglected.

Chain is badly worn, the pitch is no longer 1/2 inch.

Yup. Totally worn out. Inner ring, too.
