    Freehub body

    I was wondering...

Is the freehub body a universal part? or is each brand's model different and specific to the rest of the hub setup?

So basically, if I were to buy a replacement would i need a like-for-like product?

I can't speak for all freehubs, but I know that not all Shimano freehubs are direct replacements.

You'll need to research the specific model(s). You will find very little cross compatibility across brands, and often minimal cross compatibility within a specific brand, especially if the brand has a large number of models. There are exceptions, of course, but in most instances if you don't replace it with the same model, it won't work.
