    FC-M770 vs FC-M780

Just a quick question to get an idea of how in general people regard their new parts acquisitions!

I'm undecided on the matter and would like to get some feedback.

I'm going to upgrade from 9 to 10 speed. New '12 XT (780 generation) parts are already becoming available. However i can get 770 parts with large discounts, around 40%.

What would you guys do? Cheaper parts and older design or do you think fashion also matters a lot and would be willing to pay considerably more because of the new 2012 design?

I would buy the crankset, rear derailleur and shifters of the 780 generation and keep the cassette, chain (unchanged for 780) and front der of the 770-10.

This is my plan right now for my 29er build. Grab whatever 10spd XT stuff is compatible and buy new whatever isnt.

I'm not entirely sure whether XT (or SLX) 3x10 shifters will work with the 2x10 cranks and what derailleur to use.

I haven't tested it, but I think the shifters and FD will work fine if you make it work on the two upper ones closing the lower screw and the lower shifter position.
