F.D.and shifters on bash guarded cranks

I'm kinda new to this kind of riding and I was wondering If on a crank with 2 rings and a bash guard do you just use a normal F.D. and front shifter combo and not use the top gear or if theres special shifters designed for this.

You use normal shifters. You just move the limit screw on the front derailleur in so that the derailleur can't move to where the big ring used to be.

    Don't change anything...

with the shifter or FD. You will get used to not shifting into the big ring as the chain won't engage the bashguard. This is what I was advised to do by a very good bike mechanic. It takes a little getting used to it but if you want to change back to a tripple ring you don't have to readjust anything.
