    E-Type Front Derailleur Question

I recently switched from a triple to a KCNC double (29/42), and I see the derailleur needs to come down a bit now. However, due to the linkage mounts for the rear, it won't go any lower. Are E Types adjustable for doubles (42t big ring)? I was thinking about getting the XTR

Shimano does make an SLX E-type FD (No XT or XTR version) that is compatible for doubles. Unfortunately this doesn't help you because it is rated for a 36T top gear. The other E -types (XTR, XT) are for 44T top gears only.

I don't know the design of your frame, but could you instead switch from a top swing FD to a bottom swing - or vice-versa - to get around the linkage issue?
