    Drivetrain compatibility

Does anyone know if LX shifters will work with a Hone derailleur? I am trying to build my single speed commuter into a geared bike on the cheap. My bike currently has horizontal/track dropouts, I figure I will need to modify the derailleur a little bit to work with my axle, but for $10 it's no big deal if it doesn't work.

Pretty much all the SIS (Shimano Indexing System) shifters/derailleurs are interchangeable (with the same number of speeds) across model lineups, with the exception of a few quirks with Dura-Ace.

Depending on the dropout shape/design you could buy a adapter that attaches to the axle and works as a derailleur hanger (sort of like a chain tug).

    From DMR

But the Hone will work with the LX.

This is all getting mounted on my SS road bike/commuter, it is a bit unconventional but, the hone is so cheap I have to try! If it doesnt work out I will probably get the DMR pieces or machine my own, and put an actual road drivetrain on it.
