does SRAM XX1 Crank GXP work with Shimano XT External BB

    Hi All,
I currently are running Shimano XT M785 crank-set. I just bought XX1 crank-set and plan to run 1x10?

do I need new BB for XX1 crank or can I use XT external BB that I currently have?

    Thank you for your help
    E

You need a GXP bottom bracket.

This man said it. Do yourself a favor, and skip the Truvativ bracket. Cough up the extra dough and grab an Enduro. Better sealing, better life, less problems.

^^ What does the "GXP" bit mean? Does it have a different crank diameter than the Shimano cranks?

    "Crank diameter"?

If by that you mean spindle diameter (the thing that connects the two crank arms), yes, it does.

Just to expand on what was mentioned above.

Shimano uses a spindle that is 24mm in diameter across the entire length.

Sram(Truvativ) uses a spindle that starts at 24mm at the drive side and tapers down to 22mm in diameter.

So with a Shimano crank, you need to use a Shimano bottom bracket. With a Sram(Truvativ) crank, you need to use the GXP bottom bracket.
