Do I need the 1mm spacer on the mtb hub from the road bike hub?

This morn I quickly put my 10sp 11-27 on the mtb while still using everything from the XT 3x10 including longcage. Turned the low adjustment screw maybe 1/8 turn and all the gears clicked. Rode well, worked great on all 10 cogs with my 22T and 32T.

But there is a 1mm spacer on my road bike's hub that I took the 11-27 off. The cassette tightened down on my mtb's hub no problem, no play.

Do I need that spacer on my mtb hub with the 11-27? Noticed my XT dynasys 11-36 cassette did not have a 1mm shiny spacer.

If the cassette does not move in and out on the free hub body when it's tightened down, then you do not need the spacer. If it does, install the spacer.

You need the spacer on the roadie hub but not the mtb hub.
