Differences between Shimano PD-M540 and Crank Brothers Candy SL / 2

    All,

I just got a Giant Trance and I am choosing petals. I've been riding Crank Bros Candy SL on my old bike but was wondering if there is something better out there. Not that I am particularly disappointed with the Crank Bros...

What are the differences in terms of ride feel between the Shimano M540 and Crank Brothers Candy SL or new 2's? I've read through the reviews here and the M540's have much higher ratings overall, but I am concerned of comments on "knee pain"? I do like the small platform of the Candy SL's and enjoy some float, and they seem less complicated and easier to clean - but is there something i'm missing out on with the M540?

I tend to ride trails, trail type downhill, and small jumps...

    Thanks!

Get a pair of Time pedals and don't look back. Or go platform and wear more comfy, walkable shoes.

The 540's have a tension adjustment. CB's do not. I've ridden both, currently on Candy SL's the past 2 years. I prefer the platform of the CB's vs the Shimano's, but sometimes want the tension adjustability of the Shimano's.

I'm probably going to ditch the CB's here soon for these.
