New question here. DH Big Ring

will a DH 36T ring work as a big ring for a triple even without pins?

Depends on how well its set up . It can work , pay extra attention to your f.d. , prob. not work as well as ramped and pinned chain ring though .

In most cases they work just fine. Pins/ramped are not "needed" for shifting. I rarely use ramped rings but I also learned to ride pre-ramps/indexing and know how to finesse a shift when needed.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

    Thanks....

I put a DH 38T in place of my 44T Outer Ring and it works fine. It releases a little slow when shifting out but I just reduce pedaling pressure. For me it's a much more usable setup.

Cool! That is the way it works, and your drivetrain will be happier because you have learned to finesse your shifts.
