I tried to adjust my derailleur by adding some tension to the cable. I did this once before and it worked but this time when I loosened the screw that holds the tension on the cable it ended up like in the picture below with the chain rubbing on the frame. I'm not sure what I'm doing and really should by now so what do I need to do to fix it?
So how did the derailleur get put all the way back like the picture just from loosening the cable screw? I need to get it back to the way it was before trying to do adjustments.

Shimano's instructions would be the alternative...that looks like the M772 so here http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/t...005/SI_5W70A_005_En_v1_m56577569830655487.pdf. Really, the best way is through these or the Park instructions, will help you understand the derailleur's functions so you can make any adjustments needed...if you're still having problems by carefully following them, then you can be a bit more descriptive of specific problems when you come here for help, too.
