deore M552 cranks to SLX M660 worthy upgrade?
I have a rumblefish elite and the whole bike is pretty much SLX components with the exception of the cranks and rear cassette. It looks like there's a really good deal on SLX cranks this weekend and I was wondering if it would be worth spending $90 on some SLX cranks.
every once in a while I hear some creaking noises coming from the cranks, but I wasn't sure if the SLX would fix that or not.
If I were buying cranks anyway, the upgrade would be a no brainer...but since I have a working bike and aside from missing a few teeth on my big ring, I have a functional set now with the deore cranks. I wouldn't even worry about it if they weren't so cheap.
So...would anyone notice a difference going from Deore cranks, and HG-62 cassete to the SLX cranks and HG-81 cassette? Or would it just be a stupid waste of money?
thanks in advance

I can't imagine what you'd really gain. Both are great for the money.

The upgrade in cranks is not going to be overly noticeable. It might save you a bit of weight, but that is going to be about it. The creaking you are hearing is more likely the BB, not the cranks.
As for the cassette, the difference will be weight/material and construction. Going from an SLX to XT level cassette (my experience does not extend to Deore, sorry), you get more of the cogs on the spider, so fewer are free. This possibly reduces gouging of the free hub body.
Anyway, I would save your money and ride what you have. Replace it when required.
