I got an old school 1989 mtb with a Shimano XT m730 crankset with a biopace chainset. I want to replace it all with something of the same reliabliity and in BLACK. Since I have a 6 speed cassette am I limited to just old school stuff, or are there new cranksets out there that will be compatible with my bike? Suggestions anyone??
any new crankset should be fine (even the chainrings I suppose)... I suppose that your crankset is square taper, so your option currently would be a Hollowtech 1 square taper Deore crank (not bad at all :thumbsup... I used one for a bit and worked great...
That's exactly what I am after. I hope the different chainring sizes isnt an issue. I believe that Biopace is 48/38/28?? At any rate, this vintage mtb is going to be a leisure type road bike anywho, not a hardcore trail bike.

no prob... the sizes will not be an issue.. you will probably just need to run the chains horter.. I was mostly worried about chainring width (6-7-8 speed chains are wider than 9 speed ones)... but I doubt it will be an issue anyhow..
