    Crank spindle compatibility question

    Hi all,

Total noob - building up my first FS...

I have a 2004 Specialized S-Works Epic and plan to install the Race Face Evolve XC crankset and BB combo.

The '04 Epic originally came built with Shimano M-960 XTR crankset & BB, which had a 133.5mm spindle.
The Race Face Evolve BB has a 113mm spindle.

Will the Race Face spindle length work with this frame?
I know the BB shell size is compatible (68mm) but I'm worried the shorter spindle length may throw out my chainline.

    Or am I talking cr@p?

    Thanks,

    Well, there's no issue.
The Evolve crankset / BB is fully compatible, and is obviously a standard spindle length.
I think the confusion comes from the way the two manufacturers quote spindle length.

Race Face quote 113mm for theirs, but that's a measurement of the section of spindle not already [factory] fixed to the non-drive side crank arm. (I.e. The part of the spindle you can see.)
The Shimano quote of 133.5mm for the XTR is obviously for the entire length of the spindle, free of crank arm.

    Anywho... Installed and looking good!
