Crank Recommendations...
I needs some recommendations on a new crankset. Im looking to lighten things up at least 100grams preferably make a switch to carbon crankset.
Ive been looking at the FSA K-Force Light. It seems to meet weight and budget. However some sites have the 2x10 listed as 750grams others as low as 600grams. Anyone use these or know the real weight?
Also I noticed a listed BCD: 90mm does that mean I wouldn't be able to go any lower than a 29tooth granny?
Otherwise can anyone recommend crankset or crank arms in the $300 range that can be setup as a double under 700grams?
Thanks for any feedback!

You should have better luck getting real world weights in the WW section.
and a K-force crank is going to be well over the $300 range.

Wow! Any idea if that crank will work on a 2011 Epic Comp?

You'd be better off with the S-works cranks if you have a Spesh IMO. That would be my first choice but they wont fot my frame...

I'm afraid to even ask the dealer what one of those cranks will cost. They'll inform me of the price and then I would start to cry.
I'm trying to find a lower cost alternative..."bang for the buck" if you will.

i've heard a LOT about them having issues with the crank arm coming loose and/or creaking like mad.. never played with one myself soooo.. just did a quick read around the net and got that as the #1 issue also so I'm guessing it's not all BS.. ...? have heard of people loving them too sooooo...
I'd say read around and see what people did in prep to avoid the loose crank arm.. I hear they glue it on..? probably not something I'd do but locktite? Do some research before install!!

Ive read many of those same reviews it sounds like. Im getting a lot of mixed opinions, its either been they hated it or it has been flawless, seems 50/50 to me. I do consider that people who have issues with expensive items generally get pissed about failure after a large $ investment so are much quicker to post poor reviews. The ones that "work as they should" dont get reviews often...
I dont recall see anything about people glueing them, do you have a link? Thanks!

ya, I agree 100% which is why I was saying read around and see what those that had issues (and clear heads not hot headed numbskulls) got for an response/repair from FSA
A friend of mine got the glue/goop/stuff from FSA after he had repeated issues with his.. it was a yr or so ago and he has sense sold them off with the bike soo... I do know after he got the stuff from them he never had the issue again. and he kinda liked them though he was always scared of doing "Stump Standies" with them, reason he let them go and got the Stylo's for his current frame. I know the issues you have with the stylo so not going to recommend them though I think if you had gotten the regular stylos over the OCT's that the issues would be gone as We don't have that spacer thingy you're dealing with. but back to the subject.. I do remember sitting around reading something about glue else where when he first started getting the issue with his, and why he ended up calling them about it,.. just was a while ago and don't remember where... Sorry

No prob, I did see in other threads the pedal inserts coming loose but that FSA was very quick to correct/replace them if contacted about the issue so I got my fingers crossed!

ya,, don't know what type of trails you ride, but I'm always scared of wacking the ends doing a stump standie on a rock.. I'd be scared of running carbon cranks round here, Like I said that's why he let them go when he sold the bike, wasn't worth the constant worry for the 30 or 40 grams of weight saved...
but I hear those rubber end caps work well..? might want to look into them..? just saying...
hope it works out for ya.. must be getting tired of crank issues!! time to just go ride the darn bike!

The crank boots work great.
Got mine from Universal for around $10 shipped and then found out they come with Race Face cranks.
The other thing to consider is the quality of the chainrings. Race Face Turbine chainrings shift extremely well.

Mine has been flawless
This was obviously taken when new, but it has stood up to 1500 not-so-delicate New England miles well, frequent rock strikes and all (it is rare for me to take a ride and not have at least one rock strike). I'm sure the ceramic bearings don't make me a lick faster, but they sure do feel silky smooth.
