    converting a SLX m660 crank to 22/36

Hello, I recently purchased a Shimano SLX m660 crank (22/34/42?) and I decided I want to go with a 2x9 or 2x10 drivetrain (basically a SLX m665 conversion). What is involved in switching to 2 front chainrings? Would I be OK just buying the Shimano 36t chainring that goes with the 22/36 SLX m665 crank and using a bashring?

Also, would anybody recommend just replacing all the chainrings for something lighter/better and using the original crankarms?

    Thanks for any advice.
