Converting 3x9 crank to 2x for use with 10 speed drivetrain

I'm building up a new hardtail part by part, but I'm a little confused about what I can and can't do when mixing some 3x9 parts with a 3x10 drivetrain. I have a Truvativ 3x9 crank that I'd like to use with a 10 speed drivetrain (front & rear derailleur, cassette, chain). Ideally I'd like to convert the 3x9 crank for use as a 2x10 crank, but I don't know if after removing the big ring if I'd have to replace the chainrings as well. If everything else is 10 speed do I need to do anything to make the 3x9 crank work as a 2x10? I know I'd have to adjust the front derailleur, but I'm not sure if the crank will work or not.

I am using a 9 Speed Truvativ Firex with 24/36/Bash Guard on my KHS which has a 10 speed drivetrain. My experience is if you use 9 speed cranks, use a 9 speed front derailleur, if you use 10 speed cranks, use a 10 speed derailleur. The 10 speed triples are slightly more narrow and have a 42T big ring rather than a 44T in 9 speed. I will tell you, mine shifts pretty dam good. I also have a bike full 10 speed front and rear, it shifts just as well. If you eliminate the big ring and don't want a bash guard, you make need narrow chainring bolts.
