Compatible non-Shimano freehub for deore XT hub?

I would like to put a better freehub body on my xt hub to get better engagement, and maybe a nice clicky sound. It seems that no one but shimano makes freehub bodys due to a patent they hold for placing the bearings at the outside of the freehub. Wanted to know if I have any options for a better freehub or do I need new wheels to do this? Also, would an xtr freehub body work?

This isn't true. However, the other manufacturers freehubs don't fit shimano (or probably each other) either.

My old crappy formula hub has bearings on the outside and most definitely wont take shimano parts.

Here's a little linky for you
