    Clipless Platform Shoe?

What are they called? I recently went riding with some guys and one had a platform shoe, with a clipless clip in them.

Not really called anything specific. There are many styles of SPD compatible shoes out there. Everything from the more traditional MTB race type shoe that are heavily influenced by road shoes (look like a road shoe with tread), to shoes that are styled after skate board shoes. Usually race style shoes will have a very stiff sole and provide a solid platform that feels like it becomes part of the pedal. Very stiff and not usually designed for walking much. A board type shoe will be less stiff, often won't have a full platform that runs from toe to heal, and will be more flexible and more walk friendly. Like I said, there are many different styles of shoes out there that are compatible with the cleats (correct term for the metal bit that attaches to the shoe) for clipless pedals. Check out an online retailer like Universal Cycles, Jenson USA, or Picepoint. You'll see SPD compatible MTB shoes that look like anything from full on road race shoes to hiking shoes. Shoes that are so stiff you'll walk funny wearing them to shoe that you could almost wear every day. Lugged soles, flat soles, and everything in between. And there are even sandals available that accept SPD cleats.

So look around, you'll likely find something similar, if not exactly what the guy was wearing.

What a dummy I am. Couldn't read the post correctly asking about SHOES not PEDALS...

This is what I ride with the below pedals

Sixsixone Filter SPD Shoe at JensonUSA.com

    Shimano PD-M647 Pedals at JensonUSA.com

The best I've found since you can actually pedal while unclipped.

Both 5.10 and Vans have these offerings.
Bender to AZDog: I'm not the best person to give advice on not riding!
