Clipless pedal options

I have been riding Time ATAC pedals, the plastic-bodied ones, for a very long time... the bearings have a bit of play in them, but the cleats are completely toast.
So- I was going to get new cleats, and thought, hey, these cleats are about as expensive as new bottom-end Shimano pedals, which got me to thinking- the Times are very good and I amused to them, but they are also clunky and I could save some weight. Also, they have brass cleats which are a little pricey, and wear out more quickly than I'd like them to.
What are the options these days for pedals that still perform 100 percent in wet weather? Eggbeaters look light, but just looking at them casually I'd say the bearings don't look very big. Crank Brothers also look good, and aren't expensive.
100 bucks is my outer limit.
Can anyone advise me on what pedals are good these days?
Thanks!
