    Cleaning Shimano external bering BB.

So, i'm cleaning everything on the bike today. Is it ok to clean the external bearings from my LX crankset in Simple Green?

If you mean the exterior of the BB, yes. Like always be careful not to force it past the seals. If you mean the bearing races themselves, a rag to wipe excess grime away is the best.

Please clarify what you mean by "clean."

Are you trying to remove the seal, flush out old grease, clean, then re-pack the bearing, and put the seal back in place?

Or do you just want to make it look pretty for taking pictures, and bragging about your bike on the internet?

If only cleaning the exterior, I would not use degreaser, but rather just a rag or paper towel.
When under pressure, your level of performance will sink to your level of preparation.
