    Cleaning/degreasing (new) SRAM Chains

I got a PC-991. Is it necessary to do this (as with Shimano chains)? What should I use?

    Thanks!

Last i checked, sram reccomends you leave the waxy coating on.

If you want to get it off, simple green will be a popular suggestion.

I ran my chain fresh out of the box for 3-5 rides. The pre-applied stuff held up pretty well, and was quiet for quite a few km.
When under pressure, your level of performance will sink to your level of preparation.

Use it as it comes from the box. The inside of the chain will never be as clean or well-lubed as it it when it's new. If you ride in dry conditions and are concerned the coating on the outside will attract dust and grit, try running the chain through a rag lightly dampened with mineral spirits or some other solvent to clean the lube off the outside of the chain only.
